The first episode of Such Brave Girls was hard for me to get through, if I’m honest. The script made me cringe at times, the same way the Office used to. It felt too raw and delivered in that deadpan style of humour the Brits are so well known for. However, deep down I knew I had to press on, and I’m glad I did. The most important question I came away with after finishing the series was – after having watched the family make one disastrous decision after another, having been advised or coerced by one another – is dysfunctional support and love, no matter how wrong and harmful, better than having no support at all? Do these people really love each other? Can love look and sound like this? Ok, that’s really three questions. This is what the show really made me think about. Cringeworthy honesty that leads to chaotic decision making and misconceived notions about life. Will they work things out for themselves? I hope there’s a season two.
